Project Overview
RRD (Reimagine Retro Doom) is a mythologically-inspired, retro-style FPS that reimagines the eternal battle between Heaven and Hell through the lens of fast-paced, arcade gunplay. Set in a fractured battlefield between the celestial gates of Heaven and the infernal maw of Hell, the player descends from sacred heights into chaotic war zones. The journey unfolds across a sprawling map with three unique routes, each offering its own path, visual style, and a distinct signature weapon—such as a hammer, a plasma rifle, or other divine-infused arms. Traditional FPS staples like shotguns, pistols, and rocket launchers complement these special weapons, encouraging replayability and varied playstyles. Combat is relentless, with 5–6 demon enemy types populating each route and guarding scattered resources like health packs and ammo caches, placing constant pressure on the player to stay mobile and strategic.
Players eventually confront two unique bosses depending on the route chosen, culminating in one of two final boss battles that represent opposing ideologies of demonic tyranny. Boss encounters are mechanically distinct, often blending bullet-hell patterns with close-range duels to test player mastery. Environmentally, the game transitions from shimmering gold and white angelic realms to scorched landscapes layered in brimstone and lava, visually narrating the descent into chaos. Built to honor the spirit of classic Doom, RRD elevates the formula with branching paths, thematic worldbuilding, and more refined player feedback systems. It’s both a love letter to old-school shooters and a personal exploration of moral symbolism and scale in level design.
